Sighted Men is a loose collective of 15 musicians arranged by Daniel Dufour, Steve Terebecki, and James Petralli that will improvise in various combinations over the course of the evening of June 14 at the Radio Milk Recording Company. Tickets: https://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/4254199 There will be two drum sets, percussion, acoustic and electric pianos, upright and electric basses, pedal steel, electric guitars, vibraphone, trombones, saxophone, and trumpet on the stage with musicians entering and exiting as the music demands. This will be a night of musical exploration and freedom showcasing some of the city’s finest improvisers. All of the players on this gig are so very heavy and we are thrilled to be able to host such an event. We will be capturing the performance inside the studio with intent to further expand the music in post production and manufacture and release vinyl records down the road. Art by Will Gaynor.

9. ‘Introduce Me’ was written mostly on a Roland SP-404 in late 2014. The first sample I put down was the drum intro from a song called ‘Chief Kamanawanalea’ by The Turtles from an album called Battle of the Bands. (Greg Clifford replaced it with plenty of variation in case you are reading Flo and Eddie...plz don’t sue us. Love to take you to lunch next time we’re in Nashville🙂) The concept of this Turtles record as well as 25 o’clock by The Dukes of Stratosphear have remained super influential to us from 2006 to today. There were also some heavy Band of Gypsies and Beastie’s Check Your Head references getting thrown around when we were working on this tune. -JP 'Side Effects' is out now! https://whitedenim.lnk.to/SideEffects

8. ‘Head Spinning’ is deeply indebted to both ‘Uncontrollable Urge’ by Devo and ‘Neat Neat Neat’ by The Damned. These are desert island Rock and Roll tunes for me. In terms of energy and construction this is one of my favorite songs that White Denim has released to date. When we started making music together back in 2👀4 we were called Parque Touch. Our singer, Byshop Massive, wore eyeliner and a sequined white glove on one hand which he used to occasionally touch the faces of people we planted in the audience (also pretty much the only people ever in attendance at PT gigs)...We are talking about finally finishing the Parque Touch record this year or next. ‘Head Spinning’ will definitely be updated on that record. -JP

6. Reversed Mirror - ‘Mirrored in Reverse’ from ‘fits’ was a live staple for us for many years. We would improvise on the intro for a few minutes each night. Lots of ideas came out of those improvisations, and we mashed a bunch of them together for this version. Basically anytime we play a droning shuffle in E we can’t help but quote ourselves a little bit. There’s a nod to Frank Zappa’s ‘King Kong’ and Yes’ ‘Heart of the Sunrise’ in there as well. This one is out now, full album out Friday!

Track 3 ‘Shanalala’ was started after the Corsicana Lemonade tour as a JP demo with drum machines and synths. ‘Side Effects’ is built around this tune in some ways. We always liked the song but were waiting for the right context. The final recording has (former touring member) Jordan Richardson on drums. Very excited to have his solo project Son of Stan out on the first few shows of this upcoming April run!

More ‘Side Effects’ previews! Track 2 is ‘Hallelujah Strike Gold’. It’s not in the clip here, but the riff at the top of this song is from a White Denim song called ‘Paint Silver Gold’ from 05/06. Also not in the clip is a grammy-worthy pig squeal by Steve. Guess you’ll have to pre-save/pre-order to hear it 😬. We played this one on the UK tour, with Daniel McNeill (who also engineered the initial tracking) live-squealing from the mix position through a delay pedal. 🐽
