20 years ago today, Tom Waits’ Grammy winning album, Mule Variations, was first released. Mule Variations built on the ideas of Waits’ revolutionary 80's and 90's work. It’s considered by many to be his warmest and most direct work….earthy and wise. The blues abounds throughout. This album was widely acclaimed upon its release for its humanity, and its songs as a testament to Tom Waits legacy as one of the most important songwriters in America.

Two of Waits/Brennan and Wilson's avant-garde opera collaborations have been re-staged and are appearing now in Germany. "Alice" is a stage musical about the conflicted mind of the author, Charles Dodgson, better known by his pen name, Lewis Carroll, and his obsession with the young Alice Liddell, who inspired him to write, 'Alice in Wonderland'. Directed by Philipp Moschitz, it's playing at the Metropoltheater through May 27th.
