27 years ago, I asked Mac if he wanted to start a Christian band. His response, literally, was something along the lines of “Cool! What’s that?” We had one simple desire: we wanted to share our faith through music. After countless tours, albums, and changing seasons of the band, that has remained our goal. As we close this chapter, I am so thankful. When you’re in the middle of life, it feels like chaos. But when you look back you can see how God puts people in your life at just the right time. I’m thankful for all the fans who have made this amazing life possible. Your support and encouragement has meant more than you’ll ever know. When I see you out there in the crowd, I see family. I’m thankful for all of our incredible team who has tirelessly worked to get the word out. And for our road crew for making it happen day in and day out. And all the band mates who have stood beside me through the years. I’m thankful for Mac Powell. He’s been a great friend and band mate for sure, but he’s also been my spiritual brother. In those early days of the band, when we really probably should have been practicing, we spent time in the Word and in prayer. I like to think that we’ve lasted this long because the band was built on that solid foundation of faith. I’m thankful for my sweet girls Abbie and Kitty. All those sacrifices that they didn’t even know they were making. The missed birthdays, daddy daughter dances, and the school plays I couldn’t make. I don’t think they understood at first - I think they thought everybody’s Daddy was in a band. What’s been most incredible is that they now understand what’s going on and that they’re even MORE supportive and encouraging. And finally, I’m thankful for my beautiful Stephanie. She’s always seen the potential in me. She believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself. She’s always been confident for the both of us. And I’m so proud of how she’s blossomed during this new season of life. I love her more every day. I can’t wait to see what our future holds together! We’ve had a lot of people say different things about this Farewell Tour, from congratulations on a great career to thanks for the music. We’ve had a lot of people say different things about this Farewell Tour, from congratulations on a great career to thanks for the music. But one thing has caught me off guard a little bit. Quite a few people have said something along the lines of “Congratulations on your retirement.” I hope you hear my heart when I say this, but I don’t believe retirement is a Christian concept. We have different occupations during different seasons. But we have one job: that is to share the love of Jesus until the day we die. For Third Day, we’re concluding an amazing season where our platform has been on a stage. We’re now entering a crazy yet exciting new season where we’re leaving the comfort of the familiar and striking out in the unknown. Whatever we end up doing, we will continue to tell people about Jesus. That’s what it’s all about. I hope you’ll join me on this new chapter. I’ve got a book out and some new music and I’m hitting the road starting in August. So it’s not just “farewell”. It’s also “see you soon!” I’ll leave you with one more good old Mark Lee salute. God bless you all! Mark Lee out.
A lot of people have asked me how I feel about doing a Farewell Tour. For the most part I’ve really been too busy to think about it. But when I think about these guys, I get choked up. I will miss the friendship, the fellowship, and yes, all the stupid inside jokes that only these guys get. I’m praying for my brothers @thescottywilbanks @macpowell @hoarddaddy @trevormorganmusic @dontslapthebass and @booned. I know God has big things in store for every one of them! #thirddayfarewell (📸: @thechelsielynn) - Mark Lee
