Join me on a Roots on the Rails musical retreat with Ellis Paul and Abbie Gardner June 2-8 in Mohegan Island, Maine! Register: More info: "There’s a beautiful isolation on an island. A lighthouse. A cottage. An old inn. A group of musicians and music lovers walk on shore and are treated like neighbors. We had such an incredible time last year, great food, drinks and music every night— that we decided we had to return! The trio this year will be Abbie Gardner, Seth Glier and myself. They are dear friends and the finest musicians and songwriters you can imagine! Please join us!" - Ellis Paul Ten miles off the formidable rocky coastline of Maine, Monhegan Island with a year-round population of 65 hardy souls, has long been welcoming painters, hikers, birders, sea kayakers, and others in search of an unplugged, scaled-back escape. Accessible only by boat (we take the mail ferry over!), Monhegan boasts no paved roads, virtually no cell signal, and a commitment to careful stewardship of its natural resources and way of life. We made our inaugural trip out there in 2018 and the island sunk its hooks into us deep! It is a gem of a place, perfect for immersing ourselves into the music of three extraordinary singer-songwriters. This year our headliner Ellis Paul has hand-picked two friends and collaborators to join him -- Seth Glier and Abbie Gardner, two powerhouse artists in their own right, whose talents, combined with Ellis' promise some amazing musical moments. We hope you’ll consider joining us for this unique musical journey to one of Maine’s legendary outpost island communities! By day, we'll explore the rocky and uninhabited islands of Musgongus Bay, visit with local lobstering crews, connect with the artists who have claimed Monhegan as their muse and hike the miles of spectacular trails along the pristine coastline. In the evenings we'll gather for intimate, entirely acoustic, concerts - a unique opportunity to hear the music of world-class artists in its most elemental form. While not explicitly a songwriting instructional workshop (all are welcome whether you can sing/play a note or not!), all three will touch upon the art of songwriting in their informal workshops, with plenty of opportunities for gaining insight into their creative process.

I highly recommend reading this book. ”It’s impurrative that, in order to ensure the future security of our country, every man, woman, child, and cat be able to defend our nation against the enemies of democracy.”

Today was one of those days that reminded me how much I love songwriting. Catching an idea from an anxiety filled dog while walking up the stairs to the session. Sitting in paradise and diving into the process with Garrison Starr & Carly Paige. Finding something surprising, simple, and incredibly meaningful. 📸by @carlypaigemusic

Morning motif. Watching the clouds roll over Mt Tom exposing bits of colorful foliage through the gray. Bright and somber all at once. I love fall in New England

I must be all of 5 or 6 in this photo of me and my brother. This marks the 3 year anniversary of his passing. His life changed so much about mine and his death has continued to inform me of magic, what’s invisible, and what’s real. Today is hard and wonderful all at the same time

I truly still enjoy every minute of driving backroads and finding strange struck stops that most of the world has forgotten about and will probably never see. We fly over way too much. Who knows when this place was last opened but I like to imagine the stories it could tell.
