🎉 Today marks the 30th anniversary of Real World Records. On this day in 1989, the label launched with the release of Passion and four other albums which showcased beautiful and unusual music by artists from across the world, including the legendary Qawwali singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. To mark the milestone, Real World has announced the release of Nusrat's historic first gig at WOMAD Festival in 1985, which was the beginning of his relationship with Peter and Real World.
The Starmus festival has announced the 2019 winners of the Stephen Hawking Medal, one of the world’s most celebrated science communication awards. Brian Eno is one of the recipients, for his contribution to the popularisation of science: "I am delighted that Brian Eno has been chosen for this year’s Hawking Medal. Not only has he been an extraordinary and pioneering artist, composer and producer he has always been a science evangelist. Brian has often created the doorway through which the avant-garde enters the mainstream." - pg Read Peter's words in full >> https://petergabriel.com/news/stephen-hawking-medal-brian-eno/

“I’ve pushed myself to do things, go where I was afraid, and what I was uncomfortable in and I’ve always got a lot back from it. I feel very grateful and very lucky in lots of ways”. Peter talks to Mary Jordan in the new What It Takes podcast that covers the early days of Genesis, going solo, writing for film, WOMAD Festival, Real World Records, WITNESS and The Elders. https://petergabriel.com/news/what-it-takes/

Thanks to everyone who went to their local record shop to buy Rated PG yesterday. We know not everyone was successful, so we'll try and let you know which shops still have stock, as best we can, over the next few days. In the meantime, please don't pay the very high prices we can already see on EBay.

Very sad to lose Scott Walker. He was a unique singer who could externalise his interior with ease. Perhaps his real importance was as an artist who was unafraid to go where no other musician had been. He reminded me of a courageous and lonely arctic explorer who opened up pathways down which others could follow - pg Photo by Jamie Hawkesworth
I was very upset seeing the devastation in Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi, people stranded in trees and on rooftops, desperately trying to survive. They need immediate action. I've made a donation to DEC today - the Disasters Emergency Committee. Please help, if you can - pg https://donation.dec.org.uk/cyclone#/

This is an extraordinary book from our good friend Dr. William Li. Through the simple act of making smart choices around food and drink Will is triggering a healthcare revolution, putting the power of controlling and preventing disease squarely into our hands. As the cost of smart high-tech medicine and drugs move further away from the economic realities of most of the world’s population, this is a transformative tool for affordable healthcare – Peter Gabriel >> https://petergabriel.com/news/eat-to-beat-disease/ #eattobeatdisease
“I always felt that WOMAD demonstrated the stupidity of racism, but when we see this crazy and evil burst of hatred taking so many innocent lives we have to counter the forces that pull us apart with the only one that is stronger, that can pull us together, and that is love.” - Peter Gabriel. Our WOMAD New Zealand festival has opened today in Taranaki, New Plymouth, just a couple hours after the news of the dreadful shootings in Christchurch. It is a beacon of light, we hope, on a dark day. The thoughts of everyone at Real World and WOMAD are with the families and friends of the victims. https://www.womad.co.nz
