"To me, life is awareness. Awareness of everything possible from music trends to world problems to the flowers in your garden. People who don't stay aware eventually become vegetables. It would be awful, a waste of life not to be aware." – Peggy Lee #TuesdayThoughts #Quotes #MusicLegends #Singers #PeggyLee #QuotestoLiveBy

“My singing style grew out of necessity. I’ve always been an introvert, and I suppose I just go inside and find out who is in there. At first it was difficult, so I would really just sing for myself. Then I discovered that people were very interested in that – they wanted to see what I was doing.” – Peggy Lee #WednesdayWisdom #Singers #Quotes #PeggyLee

This month in 1961 Peggy Lee was performing at the Pigalle Club in London, England. This photo (available via Getty) was taken during that appearance. Melody Maker’s Jack Hutton gave a very positive review of her singing that July, saying: “Miss Peggy Lee, the woman who brought artistry to pop singing, displayed her art last Monday evening at London’s Pigalle restaurant to what must have been her fan club in disguise…Masterly arrangements interpreted with such supreme skill and delicacy of timing that the audience was snapped up in the spell cast by this shimmering singer. At times, among the whispered fragments of a slow, slow ballad, Peggy created an atmospheric silence that made the mumbling air-conditioning plant sound like a roaring wind-tunnel.”
