The Podcast workshop was launched this past summer in partnership with Austin’s own classical music station KMFA, Classical 89.5! Students took a field trip to the KMFA building to see the station’s awesome library of music, all the cool radio gear, and hosts live on air! KMFA host Nathan Langfitt taught students how to speak on the radio and how to edit basic tracks on GarageBand, skills they used to create their own podcasts. Check out the creative results with the link in our bio 🎧 Podcasting curriculum goal: $200 Editing, mixing, and mastering of 2 podcasts: $300 PC: @eureka_draw Shout out to Casie Luong and Elizabeth Warren! #podcast #radio #newskills #garageband
Lyrics and creative writing was one of MFML’s very first workshops! Each workshop allows students to explore their bands’ song content in a new medium, and this particular workshop has also spilled back into the band realm through written prompts that once resulted in two very different songs about avocados 🥑! Another fun fact: check out the workshop leaders own prose by listening to Marmalakes! Lyrics and Creative Writing curriculum and leadership goal: $200 PC: @tamirhasacellphone Shout out to @seawhyknack #givingtuesday #lyrics #writing #avocado
Campers from the Sound Design workshop used skills they learned to decide how their bands were recorded and produced. We’re so proud this long term goal was accomplished for the very first time in 2018- listen to their recordings here: https://m.soundcloud.com/user-802575347 🎧 #GivingTuesday goal for mixing and mastering: $300 PC: Marshall Tidrick Photo Shout out to @william_sterling_steffen and @mixersandcats #recording #producing #mixing #mastering #mfmlive
From sampling records, to making tape loops a la “musique concrete” with vintage gear, to gaining skills with the latest programs such as Ableton, the 2018 debut of the Sound Design workshop really upped MFML’s game! Sound design workshop goal: $200 #givingtuesday #sound #design # ableton #education #tapeloops #sampling #mfml
