"I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Politics Is the Entertainment Branch of Industry. C-SPAN's coverage of governmental proceedings is wonderful. Caution! Buffoons on the Hill! Wallowing in blabber and spew, regiments of ex-lawyers and used-car salesman attempt to distract us from the naughty little surprises served up by deregulated corporate America. Has it become impossible to govern the U.S. by reason or logic? America under Reagan saw the rise of governance by trickery, fear, disinformation and superstition. Oh Jesus! Here comes those fucking balloons again." –Frank Zappa from "The Real Frank Zappa Book", 1989. #FrankFriday #ZappaQuotes #Zappa #wisdom #Government #Entertainment #Industry #America #Reagan #CSPAN #buffoons #balloons #trickery #fear #disinformation #superstition

"Weasels Ripped My Flesh" released #OnThisDay in 1970. It is the second album released after the Mothers' disbanding in 1969, preceded by "Burnt Weeny Sandwich." In contrast to its predecessor, which predominately focused on studio recordings of tightly arranged compositions, "Weasels Ripped My Flesh" largely consists of live recordings and features more improvisation. Frank Zappa recruited artist Neon Park to create a subversive image based on a cover story from the September 1956 issue of Man's Life, a Men's adventure magazine. The magazine's cover story depicts a shirtless man being attacked by numerous weasels, above the caption "Weasels Ripped My Flesh". After showing Neon a copy of the magazine, Zappa inquired, "This is it. What can you do that's worse than this?" Neon's answer was to craft a parody of an advertisement for Schick brand electric razor based on the "Weasels Ripped My Flesh" theme. This is Official Release #10. AVAILABLE TODAY! The 50th Anniversary reissue of MOTHERMANIA! The album was made by Zappa in 1969 as a response to the many compilations that were being put out with the same material. He decided to release his own version and used exclusive edits and mixes of Mothers of Invention tracks from the albums "Freak Out!," "Absolutely Free" and "We're Only in It for the Money." The record includes different mixes of “The Idiot Bastard Son” and “Mother People.” The vinyl, which has been out-of-print since 1972, has been mastered from the original analog tapes by Bernie Grundman and is being pressed on 180-gram black vinyl by Furnace MFG. A limited edition, magenta & purple with black splatter vinyl version is available from Newbury Comics. 180G Black vinyl: https://UMe.lnk.to/Mothermania50 Splatter vinyl: http://bit.ly/MTHRMNA50

"You Can't Do That on Stage Anymore, Vol. 6" also released #OnThisDay in 1992. The album is the last of six double disc collection volumes of live performances by FZ, recorded between 1970 and 1988. Disc 1 of this set is a collection of songs dealing generally with the topic of sex (safe and otherwise). Disc 2 includes performances from Zappa's shows between 1976 and 1981 at the Palladium in New York City, as well as material like "The Illinois Enema Bandit" and "Strictly Genteel" that he frequently used as closing songs at concerts. The 2 CD collection "You Can't Do That on Stage Anymore, Vol. 5" released #OnThisDay in 1992. Disc 1 comprises live performances by The Mothers of Invention spanning the period from 1966 to 1969 (except for "German Lunch" and "My Guitar" which are studio recordings). Disc 2 contains performances from the summer 1982 tour of Europe. The last track on this collection ends with Zappa's anger at some audience members tossing cigarettes on stage; after a warning to stop was not obeyed, the disc ends with Zappa stating, "Houselights! Concert's over!" This is Official Zappa Release #58. What's your favorite track on this album? http://bit.ly/2t3NWQW

"Waka/Jawaka" released #OnThisDay in 1972. Confined to a wheelchair for much of 1972 after a deranged person pushed him off stage the previous December '71, FZ turned to studio work, writing jazz-fusion music scored for wider instrumentation than an average rock band. "Waka/Jawaka" is both a sequel of sorts to "Hot Rats" and a precursor to "The Grand Wazoo" which would be released later in 1972. According to FZ, the title was "something that showed up on a ouija board at one time." This is Official Release #15 http://bit.ly/2rJixDi

"Freak Out!" - the debut studio album by the Frank Zappa and The Mothers of Invention, released #OnThisDay in 1966. It was also the first double album in rock music, and the first double LP debut. Official Release #1. What's your favorite moment from this album? http://bit.ly/2tV5BLr

"One Size Fits All" released #OnThisDay in 1975. The album features one of FZ's most complex songs "Inca Roads". According to FZ's liner notes, the basic tracks for "Inca Roads" and "Florentine Pogen" were recorded live at KCET TV Los Angeles during the production of the "Token Of His Extreme" TV special. The guitar solo in Inca Roads was recorded live during a 1974 concert in Helsinki, Finland. The bulk of the album was recorded between December 1974 and April 1975 - during sessions which simultaneously produced the studio tracks on "Bongo Fury". This is Official Release #20.
