Frank Zappa was the musical guest on Saturday Night Live #OnThisDay in 1976, performing "I'm The Slime", "The Purple Lagoon", and "Peaches En Regalia," along with FZ guesting in a sketch called "Killer Trees." "Purple Lagoon" is notable for its improvised cameo by #JohnBelushi.

10th December 1971, playing the first of two nights at London's Rainbow Theatre, in England, Frank Zappa was pushed off stage by Trevor Howell, the jealous boyfriend of an audience member. Zappa fell onto the concrete-floored orchestra pit - the band thought Zappa had been killed. He suffered serious fractures, head trauma and injuries to his back, leg, and neck, as well as a crushed larynx, which ultimately caused his voice to drop a third after healing. This accident resulted in him using a wheelchair for an extended period, forcing him off the road for over half a year.

"Civilization Phaze III" - FZ's 63rd album - was released posthumously #OnThisDay in 1994. The album forms the third part of his masterwork that started with "We're Only In It For The Money" and "Lumpy Gravy". The storyline of "Civilization Phaze III" involves a group of people living inside a piano, and the menacing reality of the outside world. The album's themes include personal isolation and nationalism, and is largely composed and performed on the Synclavier. What's your favorite track from this album? http://bit.ly/2gRQ34G

“Is this the Mothers Of Invention recording under a different name in a last ditch attempt to get their cruddy music on the radio?” “Cruising With Ruben & The Jets” released #OnThisDay 50 years ago in 1968 - a concept album dealing with a fictitious Chicano doo-wop band, and FZ’s homage to 50s doo-wop and classic R&B. The album was conceived as part of a project called No Commercial Potential, which produced three other albums: Lumpy Gravy, We're Only in It for the Money and Uncle Meat. Official FZ Release #5. "Frank Zappa Meets The Mothers Of Prevention" released #OnThisDay in 1985. The album's title is a reference to the lobby group, the PMRC, who were campaigning to require record companies to put warning stickers on albums they considered offensive, and a play on the name of Zappa's former band, the Mothers of http://Invention. In response, FZ created his own "Warning/Guarantee sticker" which stated "This album contains material which a truly free society would neither fear nor suppress. In some socially retarded areas, religious fanatics and ultra-conservative political organizations violate your First Ammendment Rights by attempting to censor rock & roll albums. We feel that this is un-Constitutional and un-American. As an alternative to these government-supported rpgrams (designed to keep you docile and ignorant). Barking Pumpkin is pleased to provide stimulating digital audio entertainment for those of you who have outgrown the ordinary. The language and concepts contained herein are GUARANTEED NOT TO CAUSE ETERNAL TORMENT IN THE PLACE WHERE THE GUY WITH THE HORNS AND POINTED STICK CONDUCTS HIS BUSINESS. This guarantee is as real as the threats of ther video fundamentalists who use attacks on rock music in their attempt to transform America into a nation of check-mailing nincompoops (in the name of Jesus Christ). If there is a hell, its fires wait for them, not us." This is Official FZ Release #44. What's your favorite moment from this album? http://bit.ly/2hOMrqd

"JOE’S GARAGE is a stupid story about how the government is going to do away with music (a prime cause of unwanted mass behavior). It’s sort of like a really cheap kind of high school play . . . the way it might have been done 20 years ago, with all the sets made out of cardboard boxes and poster paint. It’s also like those lectures that local narks used to give (where they show the pills leading to the weed leading to the needle, etc., etc.). If the plot of the story seems just a little bit preposterous, and if the idea of The Centra Scruntinizer enforcing laws that haven’t been passed yet makes you giggle, just be glad you don’t live in one of the cheerful little countries where, at this very moment, music is either severely restricted . . . or, as it is in Iran, totally illegal." - FZ, Joe's Garage liner notes The double album “Joe’s Garage Acts II & III” was released today in 1979, and features the incredible "Watermelon In Easter Hay" - a song that FZ identified as one of his 3 signature tunes. This is Official FZ Release #29. What's your favorite track from Joe's Garage Acts II & III? http://bit.ly/2ePYpgn

"Things in America can be from hell. Right now we have a president from hell, and the National Security Council from hell, so we should add Jazz from Hell also." - FZ, interviewed at the start of his home video "Video from Hell." "Jazz From Hell" released #OnThisDay in 1986. All compositions were executed by Frank Zappa on the Synclavier DMS with the exception of "St. Etienne", a guitar solo excerpted from a live performance Zappa gave of "Drowning Witch" during a concert in Saint-Étienne, France, on his 1982 tour. FZ won a 1988 Grammy Award for Best Rock Instrumental Performance for this album. Official FZ Release #47. What's your favorite piece from this album? http://bit.ly/2z53knR

Set to launch in 2019, “The Bizarre World Of Frank Zappa” will include longtime and legendary Zappa players Ray White, Mike Keneally, Scott Thunes, Robert Martin and Ed Mann with Joe “Vaultmeister” Travers; they’ll be joined along the way by Steve Vai, Ian Underwood, Lady Bianca, Napoleon Murphy Brock and Arthur Barrow. "Hammersmith Odeon" released #OnThisDay in 2010. This triple album was released to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Frank Zappa's birth, and to coincide with "Frank Zappa At The Roundhouse" (a 3-day festival and symposium celebrating one of the 20th century’s most remarkable musicians and composers) at @RoundhouseLDN November 5-7, 2010. "Hammersmith Odeon" features performances culled by FZ from live recordings of 4 concerts played at the Hammersmith Odeon, London over January 25, 26, & 27, and February 28, 1978. Although these concerts provided the basic tracks for the "Sheik Yerbouti" album, "Hammersmith Odeon" features alternative versions of these songs - none of which have been previously released. The tracklisting mirrors that of the concerts performed. This is Official FZ Release #89. What's your favorite performance from this album? http://bit.ly/2lY3A21
