Arvo Pärt (11 September 1935) is an Estonian composer of classical and sacred music. Since the late 1970s, Pärt has worked in a minimalist style that employs his self-invented compositional technique, tintinnabuli. His music is in part inspired by Gregorian chant. Pärt has been the most performed living composer in the world for 5 consecutive years.

Between Sound and Space announces the forthcoming publication of "Between Sound and Space: An ECM Records Primer" by Tyran Grillo, an overview of the recordings of ECM Records which include the major premiere recordings of Arvo Pärt. The initial publication is for the South American market by publishers Rey Naranjo and will be released in conjuction with the Filbo Feria del Libro (Feria Internacional del Libro Bogotá / Bogotá International Book Fair) April 24 - May 6, 2019. Author Tyran Grillo will present two talks in relation to the book release: "ECM Records: Listen, Watch and Remain Silent,” on April 28, 2019 and “The Collector as Historian,” on April 30, 2019.

Cuba's Malpaso Dance Company perform "Tabula Rasa" by choreographer Ohad Naharin, set to the music of the same-titled work by Arvo Pärt, on their recent U.S. tour. The January 2019 issue of the Estonian publication "Ajakiri Raamatukogu" (Library Magazine) has a 13 page feature on the reading room of the Arvo Pärdi Keskus / Arvo Pärt Centre including the 5,000 volumes from Nora & Arvo Pärt's personal collection. The article interviews Centre librarian Toomas Schvak and is in the Estonian language only, but there are a generous number of photographs for everyone to enjoy.
Celebrating the birthday of beloved Estonian composer and teacher Heino Eller (March 7, 1887 - June 16, 1970), today's post at the Arvo Pärdi Keskus / Arvo Pärt Centre includes a link to a recording of the premiere performance of Arvo Pärt's "Symphony No. 1" (Polyphonic) (dedicated to his teacher Heino Eller) as performed on February 7, 1964 by the Estonian Radio Symphony Orchestra (precursor of ERSO) and conduced by Neeme Jarvi.

Arvo Pärt was recently appointed an Honorary Member of the Board for the Estonian Autismifond (Autism Fund) and the Arvo Pärdi Keskus / Arvo Pärt Centre is a supporting organization. A recent concert at the Centre was held as a fund and awareness raising event. Children at the Hilariuse kool (School) for special needs students expressed their thanks with their artistic portraits of Arvo Pärt as seen in the examples below.
