One of the more optimistic moments of his childhood came in 1962, when his sister took him to see James Brown at The Apollo. Brown’s energy formed a lasting impression on Bradley. He went home and immediately began practicing microphone tricks with a broom attached to a string Read more on Last.fm

Charles Bradley featuring The Inversions - "Whatcha Doing (To Me)" b/w "Strike Three"
Originally a stand-out album track from Charles Bradley's “Changes” long player - then titled "You Think I Don't Know (But I Know)" - Victor Axelrod / Ticklah & Co. artfully transform the Soul groover into an early '70s reggae stroller, with Charles' signature plaintive vocals providing a beautiful juxtaposition to the lighthearted bounce of the Inversion's Island beat. Thankfully CB was able to hear this version before he passed, to which he said "Ooooooo! I LOVE IT!" We think you will too!

"In a statement, Gabriel Roth, a founder of Daptone who discovered Mr. Bradley as the James Brown tribute act Black Velvet, said: 'Charles was somehow one of the meekest and strongest people I’ve ever known. His pain was a cry for universal love and humanity.’'"

Dear Fans, Charles Bradley has announced the cancellation of all upcoming tour dates due to illness.
As you may have known, Charles was diagnosed with stomach cancer last fall and, after undergoing treatment and beating it, he returned to the road this past spring. He began to feel run down during recent tour dates and learned that his cancer spread to his liver, though hasn’t returned to his stomach. He will be taking time off to focus on treatment and recovery.
"I love all of you out there that made my dreams come true. When I come back, I'll come back strong, with God's love. With God's will, I'll be back soon." - Charles Bradley
