I opened my boiler room set with my own arrangement for solo cello of "Evil Nigger" by Julius Eastman, I ended with an impromptu performance of "Nobody's Fault But Mine" for piano and vocal, Nina Simone arrangement (original by Blind Willie Johnson 1927). Thanks to those that came, even if the local police were less than thrilled, while entering the Ghetto Gothik room people were heavily body searched (the only room where this was the case) they looked through every page of my notebook with a flashlight (lmao) while my white friends walked through with ease... i left early, feeling sad about my own performance for personal reasons, varying life choices some related some not, and my place in the live performance world... police then shut the whole thing down I heard, the next morning. I don't know full details, i do know a young black girl was arrested and bail was set at an extremely high rate, i know that other officers were using excessive force on people... the trees looked nice though.
